CCTV installation in North Palm Beach can look very different depending on the property.
A downtown business, a residential neighborhood, a waterfront property, and a small condominium community can all need completely different camera systems. And when you’re installing cameras near the water, there’s another factor that doesn’t always get enough attention: Florida’s salty air.
That’s something we’ve learned firsthand through the security camera installations we’ve completed throughout North Palm Beach and the surrounding coastal communities.
Waterfront Properties Need More Than an “Outdoor” Camera
If you’re installing cameras near a marina, canal, Intracoastal property, or other waterfront location, the environment matters.
Salt air, humidity, wind-driven rain, heat, and constant exposure to Florida weather can be hard on outdoor equipment over time. That’s why we pay attention to more than whether a camera is simply labeled “outdoor.”
We consider the camera housing, mounting location, connections, cable entry points, and how exposed the equipment will be to the surrounding environment.
The goal isn’t just to install a camera that works on the day we leave. We want the system to keep doing its job years later.
A Real CSS Story: 16 Hanwha Wisenet Cameras Near a North Palm Beach Marina
One of the installs that really sticks with me was a small condominium community near a marina.
The property needed 16 cameras, and we chose Hanwha Wisenet equipment for the system. Because of the property’s location near the water, reliability and protection from the coastal environment were a big part of the installation plan.
We weren’t just thinking about where each camera could see. We were thinking about how the equipment, connections, and installation would hold up with that salty air constantly around it.
Our crew handled the installation, and when everything was finished, I came out of the office to check the completed job.
And then I did something that probably isn’t going to make it into any fancy security-industry brochure.
I grabbed a mop. 😂
There was a little cleanup left after the installation crew finished, and I wasn’t about to leave the property looking like we’d just completed construction and walked away.
So there I was, out there mopping.
That’s actually something I love about what we do. We’re a local company. These aren’t just anonymous jobs that get handed off to another department. We care what the customer sees when we leave — from whether the cameras are positioned correctly to whether the floor is clean when we’re done.
The cameras matter. The installation matters. And the little things matter too.
Why Hanwha Wisenet Made Sense for This Installation
For a condominium property near the marina, reliability was a major consideration.
Hanwha Wisenet cameras are designed for professional surveillance applications, and they gave us the equipment platform we wanted for this particular project.
But here’s the important part: the camera brand alone doesn’t make an installation reliable.
Placement, mounting, cable management, connections, recording equipment, network infrastructure, and environmental exposure all matter. A great camera installed poorly is still a poorly designed system.
16 Cameras Doesn’t Mean 16 Random Views
When we’re designing a larger system, we don’t simply walk around the property and put a camera everywhere someone suggests.
We think about the coverage as a whole.
For a condominium community, that can include entrances, parking areas, walkways, common areas, building approaches, perimeter areas, and other locations where visibility is important.
The goal is to eliminate blind spots and create useful coverage — not simply increase the camera count.
Wendy’s Take: Don’t Buy Cameras Like You’re Buying Light Bulbs
I see this all the time.
Someone decides they need “eight cameras” or “twelve cameras” before anybody has even looked at the property.
That’s backwards.
You don’t start with the number of cameras. You start with what you need to see.
Then you figure out how many cameras it takes to accomplish that.
Sometimes it’s four. Sometimes it’s sixteen. And sometimes the person who told you that you needed twelve cameras was just trying to sell you twelve cameras.
Coastal Florida Installation Requires Attention to the Details
North Palm Beach’s proximity to the water means outdoor security equipment can be exposed to conditions that aren’t as harsh farther inland.
Salt air can contribute to corrosion, while humidity, heavy rain, heat, and storms add their own challenges.
That makes installation details particularly important. We pay attention to where equipment is mounted, how exposed connections are protected, how cable enters the building, and whether the selected equipment is appropriate for the environment.
For a waterfront property, those details aren’t something we want to think about after there’s already a problem.
What About Wi-Fi Security Cameras?
Wi-Fi cameras can be useful in certain situations, but they aren’t automatically the best choice for every property.
For larger installations such as condominium communities, commercial properties, and properties where reliable recording is critical, we often recommend professionally installed wired systems.
Wired systems can record to a local NVR and don’t require internet access for the recording itself. Internet access is generally needed for remote viewing and certain cloud-connected features.
Brands such as Hanwha, Ubiquiti, and Reolink each offer different equipment options, and the right choice depends on the property, coverage requirements, network infrastructure, and budget.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are security cameras near a marina harder to maintain?
The coastal environment can be harder on outdoor equipment because of salt air, humidity, wind-driven rain, and other weather conditions. Proper equipment selection, mounting, cable management, and installation can help address those environmental factors.
Is Hanwha Vision good for commercial or condominium security?
Hanwha Vision offers professional surveillance equipment that can be used for a wide range of residential, commercial, and multi-unit applications. The appropriate system depends on the property’s layout, coverage requirements, recording needs, and network infrastructure.
How many cameras does a condominium complex need?
There’s no universal number. The correct number depends on the property’s entrances, parking areas, walkways, common areas, perimeter, building layout, and other locations that need visibility. A site assessment is the best way to determine the actual coverage required.
Do I need Wi-Fi for security cameras to work?
Not necessarily. Professionally installed wired systems can record to a local NVR without internet access for the recording itself. Internet access is generally needed for remote viewing.
Is Certified Security Systems an authorized ADT dealer?
Yes. We’re an authorized ADT dealer, and we also install standalone CCTV systems for residential, commercial, and multi-unit properties.
One More Thing From Wendy…
Here’s what I want people to remember when they’re getting quotes for a security camera system:
Ask who is actually going to stand behind the installation.
Because when you’re dealing with 16 cameras, an NVR, networking, outdoor equipment, and a property sitting next to a marina, this isn’t just about buying cameras.
It’s about designing the system correctly, installing it correctly, and having someone you can actually call afterward.
And yes, if something needs mopping when we’re finished, I’ll grab the mop too. 😂
