11:30 PM. A Trouble Alert. And a Customer Who Was Out of Town.
It was around 11:30 at night when one of our customers called us in a panic.
They were out of town when their alarm system sent them a trouble notification saying their Wi-Fi connection was down. Naturally, their first thought was, "Is my security system still working?"
We answered the call and immediately reassured them: their alarm system was okay.
The Wi-Fi connection was not what their alarm system relied on for its primary communication. Their system was equipped with cellular communication, so a local internet outage would not leave their alarm unprotected.
We stayed with them while we helped confirm what was happening. Sure enough, there was a local outage affecting their internet provider.
Once we knew that was the issue, we could finally turn a very stressful late-night phone call into something much simpler: their internet was down, but their security was still communicating.
